What are some good resources for learning ABOUT the Bible?

9月 9th, 2008 by gregoriofuentes

The best and easiest place to start is with a study Bible like the Oxford Annotated or the New Interpreter’s. They give precisely the kind of information you’re talking about in the book introductions, without being overly lengthy. There’s also good essays about canonical development (how each ’section’ of scripture came to be regarded as authoritative and why particular books were included and others excluded.) For info strictly about the Old Testament or Hebrew Bible the NJPS Jewish Study Bible is so good I can’t even begin to tell you.

Beyond the study Bibles, Asimov’s Guide to the Bible is a pretty good historical reference with very little interpretation offered, but it doesn’t touch much upon canon development.

Those are some of the things I use.
Peace to you.

drinking water?

8月 11th, 2008 by gregoriofuentes

Yes, drinking water definately makes your skin healthier. It also helps your energy levels, your mental alertness, your organs perform better, your body removes toxins better, it distributes nutrients better, and maintains body temperature.

The old saying that you need 8 glasses of water each day is basic and vauge. That is the minimum amount needed. Basically take your body weight, devide by 2 and that is how many ounces of water your body needs each day. You also need 8 ounces for every 20 minutes of exercise your do too.

It is also helpful to drink water that is as clean as possible. A good water filtration system or decent bottled water will do you even better than just tap water alone. Keep in mind thoug if you buy either a filter or bottled water that they may not take out health related items, they may simply help improve the look and taste alone. You can tell by how much you pay for it.

whats the difference between London and NYC?

8月 9th, 2008 by gregoriofuentes

London is really a ‘quaint’ medieval sort of place , very ‘cute’ in it’s own way, but never the less it is a museum piece!
NYC could be classed as the worlds capital, no where else do they have the same technology.
Pros and cons of living in each place?
London , you have to wear one of those bubbles on your head (bowler)? and carry a rolled up ‘brolly’ ,as a sign of status! NYC, you wear what you want, regardless of ’status’!
London England tends to think along the lines that no place else in the UK is of any importance ?
NYC recognises the fact that they are a part and parcel of America.
Hope this helps?

no clue..?

I’ve felt something similar. Do you have senses or talents others don’t? Foresee the future? Feel others’ emotions? Have an inner voice that helps you? Make things better by just being there? See spirits? Do you get impressions by seeing or touching things?

Is there something that you’re passionate about? A cause that brings you out of your shell? Do you find yourself drawn to something, even something totally outside your experience?

Do you remember things you’ve never seen? Places you’ve never been? Have you ever done something and wondered why? Or listened to something, and said “That’s not right!” even though you have no knowledge of the subject? Are you concerned with balance in all things?

It could be that you have psychic abilities - that you can access a whole other world that some people don’t believe exists. It could be that you are one of the souls who reincarnate. You may have a special purpose, or unfinished business, to complete in this life. As part of that, you may have brought memories from another lifetime with you.

You may have a guardian - a spirit or animal guide, who is with you, hidden but helping.

I would suggest starting meditation. It takes time, so don’t be impatient. Learn to quiet your mind so that other things may surface. Ask the cosmos to let you in on the secret. Ask for any guides to come forward and talk with you.

Now that you are actively trying to understand, look for repetitive things. Does a particular subject, item, animal, situation, etc. keep coming up? If so, investigate. Also - it is said that when the pupil is ready the teacher will come. Look for someone, however unlikely, who may share the beginning of wisdom with you. You’ll know when it happens.

Good fortune to you on your path.

Here is the review that somebody left for it…

DO NOT BUY THIS TOY, May 22, 2007
By THC (Charlotte NC) - See all my reviews

Durability: Fun: Educational:
My son recently received this toy as a gift. The water dyes were NOT washable. I tried to clean out the stains immediately after use as directed and they did not come out. Even with stain remover. Very vivid stains! Both kids outfits were ruined.

It also says the water is brightly colored and it is not. You can barely tell that the water is a color unless you hit someone with it. If your kids plan on changing into something you don’t mind staining every time they want to play with this toy then it would be okay!

****Hope this helped :)****

Can anyone tell me in simple terms what is meant by “so far as is reasonably practicable”?

8月 6th, 2008 by gregoriofuentes

It means that you have to try to meet the goal to the best extent possible under the circumstances. Fully satisfying the requirements of the regulation-law-policy is generally not possible for various reasons that are not stated, but one still has the obligation to try to satisfy the regulation as best as one can (as far as is reasonably practicable).

It is often called exercising due diligence-you are aware that an adverse event is possible and you do what you can within the physical and economic constraints of the situation to achieve the avoidance of the adverse event.

Accidents will happen no matter what you do, but if you try to make it difficult for an accident to occur, or to minimize the affect that will result from an accident, should one occur, you are satisfying the intent of the policy.

Basically, try to do the right thing and don’t ignore this possible problem simply because you cannot eliminate it completely as a possibilty.

It is a good policy to document (write down and-or photograph) the steps you or the company have taken to prevent the problem from occurring, just in case. Training programs are always useful in demonstrating due diligence.

Are videos going too far on the net? You-Tube?

8月 5th, 2008 by gregoriofuentes

Are you kidding me? Whether the video was placed on YouTube or not, it doesn’t change the fact that acts like that take place in the world. The video doesn’t promote torturous acts to take place unless the viewer was already entranced with such violence BEFORE watching the video (attributed to upbringing, personality, etc.). Seldom anyone is going to look at it and say, “LMAO! This is hilarious!” If anything, a viewer would probably report it or just give it a bad rating.
As far as our society taking it too far…. society passed taking it too far hundreds of years ago. Have you heard of the types of torture methods people used to do to punish criminals or “traitors” back in the day? Just a few decades ago, the lynching of African Americans was acceptable and a pleasant thing to witness for racists AND their children. I’ve seen pictures of dead bodies hanging from trees and children just staring at those African Americans with an expression of “you deserved it.” Don’t you think THAT’S just a tad worse than watching some random girl getting eggs smashed over her body…?

my dog is throwing up….?

8月 4th, 2008 by gregoriofuentes

I have a Pomeranian that get’s something like this once in a while. He’ll poop out what looks like dark sticky red blood “diarrhea”. He’ll also throw up a little blood with some foamy saliva, then he’ll go hide under the kitchen table and won’t move. The first time this happened to him I panicked, dropped everything, and rushed him to the vet. The vet ran some tests on him, and found nothing. He told me that he probably ate something off the ground that irritated the lining of his stomach and that was causing him to throw up blood and such. By the way he does tend to eat anything he finds on the carpet like lint or any little thing he can find. So anyway, the vet told me to buy some unflavored pedialite and give it to him orally. He also told me to try and offer him some baby food “stage 1″. We go through this once in a while and it usually lasts a day or two. But he always bounces back as if nothing ever happened. Hope this info was helpful, Good Luck with your baby! If you have any questions please feel free to email me!
